The ICTHUS fish was created by early Christians to identify one's faith without fear of persecution by the Roman government of the day. The symbolic fish represents icthus, or ixthus, the Greek word for "fish". And this word icthus created an acrostic or acronym for "Jesus (Iesous) Christ (Christos), of God (THeou), the Son (Uiou), the Savior (Soter)." |
